2019 Christmas Songs Book Tag

I saw this tag on Jana's blog (That Artsy Reader Girl) that she created, and thought it was really fun! And perfect for Christmas. For this post I'm going to focus on books I've read in 2019. (But these were not all released in 2019.) Here we go!

1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Favorite bookish couple.
Two couples came to mind when I read this question, so I'm going to list both of them! First, Lucky and Jack from Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo were adorable, and I loved their relationship. Second, I loved Poppy and Sam from I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella.

2. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Name a book where a character is away from home (school, vacation, etc.).
I was skimming my Goodreads 2019 shelf trying to think of a book for this question, which was actually harder than I thought it would be! I decided on answering with The Hummingbird Dagger by Cindy Anstey. The main character is away from home in the book (and doesn't remember where home even is, because she's lost her memory), so it fits! Also, I really enjoyed reading this book.

3. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”: Name your favorite “little” book (children’s book, short story, novella, etc.).
I haven't read any short stories this year, and sadly I haven't read many picture books this year (Honestly, I read a lot less overall this year. I really need to try and catch up!). I don't have a book for this question.

4. “Santa Claus is Coming to Town“: What book(s) do you hope Santa brings you this year?
I have a whole wishlist of books for Christmas, and there's a lot on it from Santa to choose from!

5. “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”: Which book turned your nose red (made you cry)?
I've cried a lot this year, but not many books made me cry. (I think because when I did read, I was mostly reading happier books.) But there were multiple parts in Sherwood by Meagan Spooner that made me emotional! It was a really good book!

6. “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”: Your favorite book/kind of book to read during the holidays.
Christmas books! I have multiple ones on my TBR list, but two that I've already read this year are Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella and 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston. I loved both of them!

7. “We Three Kings”: Your favorite trilogy.
I didn't read a trilogy this year!

8. “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”: A character you would love to be snowed in with.

9. “Last Christmas”: A book that seriously let you down.
I don't really like listing anything negative about books on here, so I'm not going to answer this one. :)

10. “White Christmas”: An upcoming release you’re dreaming about.
Ooh, there are so many! I really don't think I could list just one! :)

That was fun! Thank you to Jana for creating this tag! :)

Where I've Been

Hi, everyone. I'm writing this post today to let you know where I've been the past two months. If you follow me on Twitter, you probably already know all this, but I thought I should post something here on the blog to explain where I've been. And if you want to skip this post, I totally understand. I'm going to be talking about some upsetting things, so if you're not in a place where you can read that, I totally understand and completely respect that.

My Mom had to have major surgery towards the end of October. It went well, and I'm very happy to report she's recovering really well from it. But at the time, I just wasn't in the place mentally to write blog posts, and I also didn't have time to, because I was taking care of her during the first two weeks of her recovery. Just when things were getting better with that, our dog got sick. They found out he had cancer, and it was advanced. The Monday before Thanksgiving we had to put him down. We were all devastated. Bruno was a part of our family, and we all took it hard, I couldn't stop crying when it happened. I get emotional now writing this. My depression began to come back stronger, and my brain was trying to go to dark places. I talked to my doctor, who put me on more medicine (to go along with the medicine I was already taking for my anxiety/depression), and between that and prayer, I was able to get to a place where it still hurts, but I'm able to better handle it. I'm always going to miss him, but I'm going to honor his memory by keeping it together mentally as well as I'm able to. He hated it when anyone in the family was sad, and he wouldn't want me to cry all the time. I also wanted to thank everyone on Twitter who responded with kind words when I tweeted about it. It helped more than you know.

I'm also trying to keep busy, because that helps me with my mental state. Which is why I feel like I'm able to go back to blogging now. I have a few posts scheduled, and I'm looking forward to writing a wrap up for the year (because I always think those are fun), and writing my annual books to look forward to in the coming year. I also have the 2020 Debut Author Event coming up in January, so look forward to that!

Thank you for letting me write all this, and I hope you'll look forward to reading my posts coming up.

Are You Ready For Sweater Weather? The Autumn Tag

Hi, everyone! I saw this tag on JennieLy's blog that she created, and I thought that it looked like fun! :)

Hot Chocolate: Your Favorite Comfort Book?
The first book that came to mind is Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. Even if I don't have time to reread it, I like to pick it up and skim through it to reread my favorite parts.

Pumpkin Carving: What is Your Favorite Creative Outlet?
It used to be drawing, but I fell away from that. I'm trying to get into it again, but I would say crafts right now. I love all kinds of crafts, but one of my favorites is making wreaths!

Falling Leaves: Changes That Appear Bad But You Secretly Love?
I hate change. I know that's bad, but change stresses me out, and I just don't like it. I guess I could say change that keeps me from eating at my favorite restaurants, and forces me to try new ones. (I know that's a pathetic response but it's all I could come up with!)

Pumpkin Spiced Latte: Something You Love That Others Tend to Judge?
Disney! I love anything that involves Disney, but I've been judged so many times because of that. I don't care what people say, just because I'm an adult doesn't mean I can't love Disney!

Bonfire Night: What Makes You Explode With Joy?
When I get to read a new book or watch a new movie that I've been anticipating for awhile!

Fright Night: Favorite Scary Book or Film?
I've talked about this before, but I don't like scary books/movies. It's just not for me. But two movies that I love watching for Halloween are Hotel Transylvania and the newer Ghostbusters!

Halloween Candy: Favorite Thing to Eat?
Anything chocolate! Seriously. I love dark, white, milk, if it's chocolate I love it!

Scarves: Your Autumn "Must Have" Accessory?
My answer for this one is actually scarves! I love accessorizing my outfit with a pretty scarf!

Fire: A Book or Film That Burns Your Soul?
I don't know what book or movie to pick for this question!

Toffee Apples: A Book or Film That Seems One Thing But Really Has a Different Inside?
I know I have an answer to this question, but I can't think of it right now.

I really enjoyed answering these questions! Thank you to Jenniely for creating this fun tag! I tag anyone who wants to participate in it! :)

Random Friday: Movie Soundtracks

Random Friday is hosted by Awkwordly Emma

The Random Friday topic this week is Movie Soundtracks! I decided I'm going to focus on Disney soundtracks this week, because that was what came to mind first when I saw what the topic was. I also decided that I would just pick five, to really highlight my favorites! (Though, I should have just called this my favorite Disney Princess albums, because all the soundtracks I picked are from those movies.) Here we go!

I love this whole album! I could listen to it all the time.

The Little Mermaid
I've loved this album since I was little. (Part of Your World is my favorite!) And in my opinion, it has the best Disney villain song of all the movies.

Who doesn't like this album?

*sings When Will My Life Begin?*

I love the instrumental music, and Touch the Sky is fantastic!

What are your favorite movie soundtracks? :)

Discussion: Bookmarks

Hi, everyone! With all the talk of bookmarks on Twitter, I thought it would be fun to write a discussion post about what people use as bookmarks

The most obvious answer to the title of this blog post! I collect bookmarks, and I use them when I'm able to/remember to.

Random scraps of paper, receipts, etc.
I have done this before, but not recently.

Dog-Ear the Page
I used to bookmark my books this way, when I was little.

Remembering What Page You Left Off On or Just Randomly Opening the Book and Trying to Find the Page.
I do this a lot! Especially if I don't have a bookmark nearby, I just try to remember the page # or at least around the page #.

What about you? How do you keep track of where you're reading? :)

Halloween Picture Books

Hi, everyone! I love Halloween! But I don't like scary stories. Which is why I love reading picture books for Halloween! It lets me celebrate the holiday, without reading books that would scare me too much. My Mom and I read picture books together at Halloween, it's fun! Which is why I thought it would be fun to list a few Halloween picture books here on the blog! (And I also recommend reading YABookNerd's blog, she wrote two posts with lots of good recommendations! Post 1 and Post 2.) There are seven books listed in this post, 4 that I've read, and 3 that I want to read. Here we go!

Have you read any of these books? Are any on your TBR list? :)

Wallpapers! Vol. 1

Hi, everyone! Today is the launch of a brand new feature on the blog, where I make wallpapers for your desktops and your phones! (I know of only one other blog who makes them, and that's Pop! Goes the Reader! She has been making wallpapers for awhile, and they're really cool!) I like making wallpapers for fun, and I thought it might be nice to make a feature of it on the blog. This won't be a weekly feature (At least not right now.), but more like whenever I make a few that I think you all might like. These aren't based on any books, but are more universally book/writing related. Though, I will be making some with quotes from books on them! If you have any requests, leave them in the comments, or tell me on Twitter, and maybe I'll be able to use them in a future post! Here we go! :)

Just click on the wallpapers and save/download them to whatever device you want.

Do you like any of these? And do you have any requests/ideas for future wallpapers? :)

Discussion: To Binge or Not to Binge?

Hi, everyone! Today I wanted to post about something I was talking about the other day, and that's binge reading. I was talking about binge reading, and how I have a hard time with it because even if I LOVE the books I'm reading, I have a hard time staying focused on the same series for more than two in a row. I love the idea of binge reading a whole series, but I've found that I have to add in a different book between the series books to keep my attention.

It's not that I'm not enjoying the series I'm reading. I think it's because I begin to think about all the books on my TBR pile, and how I need to read them all. And then I think about a different genre, and by the time I'm done, I'm losing focus on the book I'm reading, and I need a new book to read. I have discovered that if I read one book in a series, then a totally different book, then the next book in the series, I'm able to stay focused that way.

I'm not that way with TV shows. I'm able to binge watch multiple seasons of a show in a row (Though not multiple seasons in one night!), and keep focused on them. But I think it's because it takes me longer to read a book (One day if I'm able to read the entire day. Up to a week or more if I'm really busy.), than it takes me to watch a TV show episode (thirty-minutes to an hour).

What about you? Do you like to binge read? Or are you like me? Tell me! :)

Review: Aiming For Love

Review: Aiming For Love (Brides of Hope Mountain #1) by Mary Connealy

Growing up in Colorado, Josephine Madson has been fascinated by but has shied away from the outside world--one she's been raised to believe killed her parents. When Dave Warden, a rancher, shows up to their secret home with his wounded father, will Josephine and her sisters risk stepping into the world to help or remain separated but safe on Hope Mountain?
-summary and cover via Goodreads

Plot: It was really good! I liked the premise of Jo, Ilsa, and Ursula living up on the mountain their whole lives, and getting to read their reactions to things that were so different to them but normal to the rest of the characters. I appreciated the fact that the book went right into the story, and didn't have a lot of filler before the story really began. I also liked getting glimpses at what the plot (I assume) of the next two books will be.

Characters: Jo was a really good main character! I liked Dave, and his family. I also look forward to reading a book with Ilsa as the main character.

The cover: I like it!

Overall: I really enjoyed reading this book! It was a really good beginning to a new series, and I look forward to reading the next book! I highly recommend this book!

I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher.

Review: Snow One Like You

Review: Snow One Like You by Natalie Blitt

Mia can't wait for the Winter Festival - It's what her hometown, Flurry, Vermont, is famous for. Plus, maybe she can work up the courage to show the new boy, Yoshi, how much fun snowball fights can be.

There's just one problem: the weather forecast isn't predicting a single snowflake before the big day. And what's the Winter Festival without snow?

Canceling the festival would spell disaster for the local businesses, including the cozy inn that Mia's family runs. With the town in chaos, Mia is suddenly at odds with Yoshi and her best friend, Lark. Can Mia save the festival in time...or is she in for a wintry mix of troubles?
-summary and cover via Goodreads

Plot: It was fun! I liked reading about Mia and her friends plan to save the festival.

Characters: Mia was a good main character, and I liked all the side characters, too!

The Cover: It's a fun cover!

Overall: This was a fun Middle Grade book that I liked reading, and I know I would have loved it when I was in middle school. I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a fun Middle Grade book to read for Winter/Christmas!

I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher.

Cozy Mysteries! Part 2

Hi, everyone! Yesterday on the blog I talked about what cozy books I love and the ones I want to read. Today, I'm going to talk about what Hallmark cozy mysteries I love watching! My Mom and I love watching Hallmark together, but she also loves Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Earlier this year my Mom got me to watch my first Hallmark mystery, and I became totally addicted to them! I've managed to watch almost every cozy mystery they've released, and I eagerly await each new one. I love the mysteries, the characters, the romances, the settings, and being to able return to the same characters over and over again. Which is why I thought it would be fun to talk about my favorites here! I'm going to talk about my seven favorite series of movie from them. I've watched more than that, but I thought it would be fun to talk about my absolute favorites here today! I am also only listing movie series with at least 2 movies currently out, because there are a couple others with only one movie out so far (Crossword and Picture Perfect are two.) that I've also enjoyed watching, but I wanted to focus on series of movies today. Here we go!

Not listed in any particular order. Links go to the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries website.

These are the first mystery movies I watched. My Mom thought I would like them because the cases in them have to do with history (Which is I love!), and she was right!

I love this series of movies! And I love that baking plays such a big role in the movies.

My Mom's favorite! I really love these movies, too! If I'm flipping through the channels trying to find something to watch, and see that these are on (They replay these movies a lot.), I always stop to watch them.

A newer series, but one that is already one of my favorites!

My Mom and I just binge watched these movies and they're really good! I'm hoping they make more of them.

This series is pretty good!

Another one my Mom and I just binge watched! Based on how long ago the last movie released, I don't think they're making any more of them, but I hope they do.

Have you watched any of these? What are your favorite Hallmark mysteries? :)

Cozy Mysteries! Part 1

Hi, everyone! Today I wanted to talk about cozy mysteries. One of the things my Mom loves to read is cozy mysteries, and because of her love of them, I've begun to love them, too! I love the stories, the characters, and the settings. There's something comforting about returning to the same characters and places over and over again. And I love mysteries! I mean, have I mentioned how much I love reading Nancy Drew books? (I might have mentioned it a few times.) So it makes sense that I would love cozy mysteries, too.  (I also love the titles of cozy mysteries!) Today I thought I would talk about a few cozy mysteries I've read, and list a few that I want to read. Tomorrow, I thought I would talk about the Hallmark mystery movies I've watched (Another thing my Mom got me into! She is also where I got my love of Debbie Macomber books.).

Here we go!

Books I've Read:

I've read books #1 through #6, and I hoping to read the rest of the books soon, too. I've really enjoyed reading these books! When I catch up to the current release, I plan on writing a full review for the series on the blog.

I've read the two books that have been released, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book!

I've read the first book, with plans to read the rest of them.

Books I Want to Read:

I'm really loving the Library Lover's mysteries by this author, so it makes sense that I would want to read this series by her, too! (Also, my Mom highly recommends this series, too!)

This is another of my Mom's favorite series, and she thinks I would like it too, so it goes on the TBR list!

And another of my Mom's favorite series! I think this series sounds really good!

I love Christmas. I love mysteries. This series seems perfect for me!

I keep hearing good things about these books.

Do you like cozy mysteries? What are some of your favorites? Have you read any of these? And come back tomorrow when I talk about Hallmark mystery movies!  :)

Top Ten Books on My Fall 2019 TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl blog.

Hi, everyone! The topic this week is Fall TBR. All of the books listed here are books that release in October or November. I'll be reading books that released before then this Fall, but for this post I thought I would focus on books that are releasing in Fall! Also, these are not the only books I'm looking forward to that release this Fall, but I was trying to keep to ten (and still ended up with eleven) this week. There's a lot of good books releasing this Fall! Here we go!

Not listed in any particular order.

Top Ten Books on My Fall 2019 TBR List

I love these Star Wars picture books!

The World of Weird Animals books are really fun!

I have an e-ARC for this book, and I'm looking forward to reading it!

It's Frozen, and it's by an author whose books I love. Of course it's on my TBR list!

Again, Frozen and an author whose books I already love? Obviously on my TBR list!

This sounds like a fun book!

I keep hearing good things about this one!

The TV show this new one is based on is really fun! And I liked the previous DC Super Hero Girls graphic novels I've read.

This looks cute!

The other books in this series are really interesting!

I have an e-ARC of this book, and it looks really interesting!

What books are on your Fall 2019 TBR list? :)
