Waiting on Wednesday: Alienated

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking The Spine

This Wednesday I'm Waiting on: Alienated by Melissa Landers

Interplanetary relations have never been more exciting! The first in a funny, romantic YA sci-fi series.

Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

Top Ten Books I've Read So Far In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish Blog
This was another really hard top ten this week. What's weird is that over half were published 2012 and earlier. I guess I've read a lot more older books than new releases this year. Which for me is a little odd. But it's fun to go back and read books I may have missed before. :) In no particular order here is my top ten ( If you click on the cover the link should take you to goodreads )

This is What MY Happy Looks Like

I just finished reading This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith and in the book Graham ask Ellie what her happy looks like and she responds with what happy looks like to her. Now I feel inspired to say what my happy looks like, I'm sure someone else will do this also, but I thought it would be fun to make a list of my own.

This is What MY Happy Looks Like

  1. Getting a new book by my favorite author
  2. Hearing my favorite song on the radio
  3. Just hanging out with my mom
  4. Playing with my dog
  5. Going to the library
  6. The feel of Spring and Summer
  7. Watching my favorite shows
  8. Flip-flops
  9. Making crafts
  10. Finding a new favorite book
  11. Meeting people who love the same books I do
  12. The Beach!
  13. The smell of clean laundry
Okay, that was fun! Now that I shared what my happy looks like what does yours look like? Oh, and if you have not read this book yet you really should!

Waiting on Wednesday: Pirouette

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine

This Wednesday I'm Waiting on: Pirouette by Robyn Bavati

Adopted out as tiny babies, Simone and Hannah have never known they are identical twins. Simone has been raised as a dancer, but she hates performing. Hannah loves nothing more than dance, but her parents see it as just a hobby. When the two girls meet for the first time at the age of fifteen, they decide to swap places to change the role dance plays in their lives. Yet fooling their friends and family is more challenging than either girl expected, and they’re both burdened by the weight of their lies.

How long can Hannah and Simone keep pretending? What will happen when the truth is revealed?

-Summary from Goodreads

I've danced ballet for a few years and it's always fun to have dance mentioned in a book and the summary reminds me of the parent trap which is a movie that I love. This book sounds like a lot of fun!

This will be released November 8th 2013

Review: This is What Happy Looks Like

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

If fate sent you an email, would you answer?

When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O'Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds.

Then Graham finds out that Ellie's Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media's spotlight at all costs?

-Summary and Cover via Goodreads

Plot: The plot was really cute and as I was reading the book I kept thinking this would make a really good movie. I liked how between chapters there were e-mails. I was happy with how the book ended for the characters, but I would definitely read a sequel to the book!

Characters: I don't generally like books with two point of views because I almost always like one better than the other but in this one I think it worked well. I liked Ellie in this story but I really liked Graham. It seemed like we should have heard more from her friend Quinn in the book.

The Cover: I love the cover! It really catches your attention and stands out, Though that scene never happens in the book.

Overall: I wanted to read this book because I loved The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by the author and thought it sounded good and while I did not love it as much as that book I still liked it a lot and definitely recommend this book.

I checked this book out from my local library
