Hi, everyone! Today I am happy to present an interview with Rebecca Rode, the author of multiple books, including the YA novel, Tides of Mutiny, which releases today!

Would you please tell us a little about your book, Tides of Mutiny?
Of course! Twenty years ago, a band of powerful female pirates almost conquered the Four Lands. After their defeat, the king ordered the execution of any woman who dared set foot on a ship again.
For Laney, her dream of becoming captain seems impossible. She’s skilled and experienced and everything a captain should be—except a boy. But when the king’s son tries to blackmail her to save his father’s kingdom, Laney finds that there may be more pirate in her than she thought…and it’s time to pull off a mutiny of her own.
Who are some of your favorite fictional (or historical!) pirates?
My very favorite is Ching Shih, a female Chinese pirate who commanded over 1800 ships and around 80,000 pirates. Some call her the most successful pirate in history. The woman was known for being ruthless—anyone who disobeyed a superior was beheaded on the spot—but she also had a soft spot for her own, executing any pirate who assaulted a female prisoner. While Blackbeard and other famous pirates came to terrible ends, she left piracy with a comfortable retirement in 1810 and lived to the age of 69.
Most people don’t know this, but Mistress Ching, one of the nine Pirate Lords in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, was based on Ching Shih.

Random question! What’s your favorite color?
Purple. I can’t even tell you why because I have no idea, but I really like it. I don’t think I’ve been asked that question since sixth grade. Lol.
If you’re able to talk about it, what are you currently working on?
One project I can’t discuss, but I’m also working on another YA fantasy project involving an island and an enemies-to-lovers romance. It has a cool magic system and I’m LOVING it so far.

What are some books you’ve read and loved recently?
I’m obsessed with Sabaa Tahir’s Ember in the Ashes series right now. I also read Furia by Yamile Mendez this summer and loved it. I have a weak spot for fierce female protagonists. Oh, and Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Such a creative retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. I also recently finished a re-read of Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater and I’ll probably read it several more times. I love horses and old legends and I adore her writing style, so it hits all the boxes for me.
