Interview With Alexandria Rogers!

Hi, everyone! Today I'm happy to present an interview with Alexandria Rogers, author of The Witch, the Sword, and the Cursed Knights, which releases in February!

Would you please describe your book, The Witch, the Sword, and the Cursed Knights, in seven words?

Hopeful, atmospheric, Arthurian, adventurous, whimsical, found family

Did you always want to write MG books?

Yes! I have a vivid memory of being nine years old, sneakily reading a Tamora Pierce book during class, and believing there was nothing in the world with the same kind of magic. Even then, I knew I had to spend my life trying to find my own magic in stories.

Random Question! What’s your favorite type of weather?

Whatever matches the setting. I love blustery Scottish days, snowy winter nights, and the sizzling heat of sandy beaches. The only weather I really dislike is too much of the same.

What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?

Done is better than perfect. You're allowed to fail and be bad and write meaningless nonsense that makes you want to burn your book. At least you'll have written a book. Believing that done is better than perfect can allow you to keep moving forward. It will help you stay upright and confident in the face of rejection and criticism. It will allow you to fall and be okay that you've fallen. As a writer, you have to believe in yourself, and I have found it so much easier to believe in myself when I give myself space to be messy.

What are some books you’re looking forward to reading in 2022? And if you’ve already read some ‘22 books, would you like to mention them?

You know that moment in Ever After where the prince asks Danielle what her favorite book is and she says, "I could no sooner choose a favorite star in the heavens"? (If you don't, it is a must watch). That is how I feel. So here are just a few! M. T. Khan's Nura and the Immortal Palace, Laura Weymouth's A Consuming Fire, Judi Lauren's Jordie and Joey Fell From the Sky, the ninth Keeper of the Lost Cities book by Shannon Messenger, George Jreije's Shad Hadid and the Alchemists of Alexandria, Sarah J Maas's House of Sky and Breath, Emily Thiede's This Vicious Grace, The Ogress and the Orphans by Kelly Barnhill, and As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh. So many books, so little time!

Author Bio: Alexandria is the author of middle grade fantasy adventure, The Witch, the Sword, and the Cursed Knights, coming out February 8, 2022.

After receiving her master’s degree at City, University of London for her non-fiction book on the romantic mythology of Paris, she acted, modeled, and wrote in Los Angeles. Eventually, she discovered she preferred drizzly days to eternal sunshine, and that she didn’t want anything to divert her time from writing.

Now the Wisconsin native lives in Edinburgh with her husband and dog, in eternal search of excuses to visit Paris.
