Summer Lovin’ 2022! Interview With Kristin Rockaway!

Hi, everyone! Today I'm happy to present an interview with Kristin Rockaway, the author of Smart Girl Summer, which releases in August! She is also the author of multiple other books, including last year's release, Life, Unscheduled.

Would you please tell us a little about your book, Smart Girl Summer?

I’d love to! Smart Girl Summer is the story of Abby Atkinson, a PhD student whose career has come to a grinding halt after her graduate adviser steals her research and screws her out of a summer job. Strapped for cash and eager to escape her problems, she accepts a position as a traveling tutor – which will require her to spend six weeks sailing across the Mediterranean on a superyacht, teaching math to the daughter of billionaire Richard Vale. According to the tabloids, Richard’s a playboy, but once Abby gets to know him, she realizes that might not be the case. And while she tries to keep things strictly professional between her and her boss, their hearts have other plans.

Did you always want to be a writer?

Being a writer was definitely my childhood “when I grow up” career of choice. But for various reasons – fear, self-doubt, a need for financial security – I decided to become a software engineer instead. I always wrote on the side, though, keeping journals and posting blogs and crafting really sappy poetry. Finally, about nine years ago, I took a fiction writing class with Gotham Writers Workshop, and started penning what would become my debut novel, The Wild Woman’s Guide to Traveling the World. I haven’t looked back since!

Random Question! What’s your favorite color?

It’s a toss-up between blue and purple, depending on my mood. Right now, I’m kind of loving the color that the cover designer chose for Smart Girl Summer.

If you’re able to talk about it, what are you currently working on?

I’m currently in the development phase of my next story – plotting, drafting, dreaming – so I don’t want to talk too much about it (I’m superstitious!). However, I’ll say that it’s very much thematically in line with my previous stories about women searching for meaning in their lives and abandoning external expectations to follow their dreams. Except this time, there’s a little bit of magic involved…

What are some of your favorite Romance books? And what are some you’re looking forward to reading?

I love anything by Emily Henry, Helen Hoang, and Rebekah Weatherspoon, and I’m really looking forward to Sally Thorne’s next book, Angelika Frankenstein Makes Her Match. Also, I just read Kerry Rea’s latest, Lucy On The Wild Side, and I cannot recommend it enough!

Thank you to Kristin Rockaway for participating in this event! :)

Author Bio: Kristin Rockaway is a native New Yorker and recovering corporate software engineer. After working in the IT industry for far too many years, she finally traded the city for the surf and chased her dreams out to Southern California, where she spends her days happily writing stories instead of code. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, browsing the aisles of her neighborhood bookstores, and trying to catch up on sleep.
