Annoying Adults at The Library

The other day at the library I overheard a mom telling her son that he wasn't allowed to get the books he was looking at because they were beneath his reading level. May I just say how mad that made me? He wasn't older than seven years. If he wants to read a book that's "beneath" him, why not? As long as he enjoys what he reads, why not let him read it? If he doesn't like what he's reading now, then he probably won't like reading when he is older!

I'm very lucky that my mom has never stopped me from reading a book because she thought it wasn't "good enough" for me. I've never been allowed to read books that had a lot of content that I was not ready for, but she never told me that a book was too easy for me. Or that a book was too stupid. Or that a book was not good enough for me. And it makes me mad that the mom didn't think her son should read a book that he was interested in, just because it wasn't his reading level.

I understand he if needed to get a book for school in his age range, I do get that. But would it hurt for the mom to let him get that other book? Our library has a fairly high amount of books you're allowed to have out at a time, there probably would have been enough room to get it for him and be able to get the other books too.

I'm not really sure why I wrote this post. It's not really a What Do You Think? Post because I don't really know if there is that much to talk about. But this was really bugging me and I thought it might be good for me to write it down here. But if you all have an opinion about this post, then feel free to tell me your thoughts here!

To be honest I haven't read Scarlet yet, even though I love Cinder,but I'm going to try to read it in the next few weeks! Rapunzel is my favorite fairy tale, and I'm looking forward to reading this book when it releases! And I love the cover of it! :)

Mini Reread Review: I've never fully reread this book before, I have picked it up and reread a few pages before now, but I haven't read it fully since 2009 after the book first released. This is an enjoyable MG book about a girl who has to participate in a pageant type thing that her Aunt signed her up for without her knowing it. One of the reasons she doesn't want to do it is because it's for plus size girls, and after being bullied enough at school because of how she looks, she doesn't want to model in it because that would just be more for her to deal with. Add in friend problems and you have the book! The main character, Celeste is very likable and you'll enjoy being in her head as she grows in the book! If you're looking for a good MG book, this may be one you would enjoy!

The Cover: I like it! It gets your attention and the colors used on it are bright and happy looking! The only problem I have with it is the fact that in the cookie on the cover is a outline of a girl, and by looking at, the girl does not look plus sized at all, she looks average in my opinion! That bothers me, but otherwise the cover is one I like!

Would I Recommend This Book?: Yes! If you think you might like it, try it!

Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist

When I first heard the topic for this week it made me think of #RBWL! Which I had a lot of fun with! (I made A LOT of wishes that day) A few of the wishes on my wishlist below are ones I made during that, but a few are new ones! And I didn't just list ten... I may have gone a little over that! :)

Top Ten Fifteen Things On My Reading Wishlist

1. Homeschoolers

I'm homeschooled and I would REALLY love to read a book about that. But not the any of the annoying stereotypes about us, like that we have no friends/live in the middle of nowhere/aren't intelligent/insert annoying stereotype here. 

2. Lupus

I have Lupus and I've only read one book where the main character has it, and it wasn't the best portrayal of it in my opinion. I wouldn't want it to be the main part of it, but just be A part, you know?

3. Castles

Present day or Historical it doesn't matter to me, okay? I just love castles a lot! :)

4. War of 1812

This is a interesting time period that I don't think gets written about enough!

5. Christian Main Characters

Not Christian Fiction (Though I like it, too) But one where it's just part of who they are. Maybe mention them going to Church or praying before meals. It doesn't have to take over the whole story or anything like that.

6. Family Vacations

This has the potential for a hilarious book!

7. Different Countries
There are a lot of countries that I would love to read about in books, I would be happy with Ireland, Scotland, and yes, even more books set in Paris and England. And a lot of other countries, too!

8. Fairytale Retellings From the POV of People Other Than The Princess/Prince

I just think this would be a very fun way to retell a fairytale, especially a well known one!

9. New York City

That is all. 

10. Good Parents

I would love for their to be good parents in a book, ones that actually take an interest in the lives of their kids. This may be hard to believe, but a lot of kids do get along with their parents!

11. Superheroes!

Particularly like the school in X-Men, but any kind would be amazing!

12. A YA Love Story That Takes Place at Christmas Time!

I've read a lot of romance books that take place in the Summer or during the rest of the school year, but I would love to read a YA one where it takes place during Christmas time!

13. Quirky Mysteries

Along the lines of cozy mysteries maybe?

14. Funny "Make Me Laugh Out Loud and Have People Look at Me Like I'm Insane" Books

You know the books I'm talking about! The ones where you're reading them near people and you have to hold your laughter in, but it's not possible! The book is too hilarious not to laugh! :)

15. Horses

If it has a horse on the cover or in the summary I will most likely at least try the book. I have never outgrown horses in books, never!

Plot: I enjoyed the plot! I love reading books set in other countries and this series seems to be perfect for that. And Finland isn't a country that gets a lot of mentions in YA books. (I found it particularly interesting because my Grandmother is Finnish) The sport Mo participated in wasn't one I knew really anything about and it was nice to read about a lesser known one! I wish we had gotten to see a little bit more of her family since the whole reason she wanted to study in this program was to get away from them, but having the whole book actually be set in Finland was neat overall!

Characters: I liked the characters in this book! And a refreshing thing was that the "mean girl" wasn't really all that mean (at least not in the usual way) You felt bad for her and she wasn't that way through the whole book. Mo was interesting, though I do feel that she didn't...feel that different in her inner voice? I mean, she didn't stand out that much from other voices in YA books. I would have liked to see a bit more of her friends she made there too. I liked her love interest! Overall the characters were good!

The Cover: The cover is okay! :) I don't love it, but I don't hate it either!

Overall: This book was fun read overall! It wasn't perfect, but it did get me out of a reading slump which was nice! If you're looking for a quick enjoyable read set in a lesser written about country, this is one I would suggest to you! :)

Plot: I have to admit that I was nervous to read this book because I loved the first book in the series so much, and I was scared this one would not live up to my expectations. Well, I shouldn't have been nervous because I loved this one as much as the first one! The plot was awesome! I was happy that it didn't suffer the "second book syndrome" where you learn nothing, and the whole book is pointless in the grand scheme of the story. I felt satisfied with what we did learn in this one and I'm super excited to read the next one!

Characters: I continued to love Sophie in this book! Keefe is one of my favorite characters now! I <3 him! I'm definitely team Keefe! :) I liked Sandor, her goblin bodyguard. Her adoptive parents, Grady and Edaline are great! I also liked the mirror, Vertina. I LOVED Silveny! I mean, she's an Aliacorn! How could I not love her!?

Overall: I've been having a reading slump recently. I kept starting books just to put them down again, because nothing was holding my attention. Which was one of the reasons I was nervous about reading this book. That, and the fact that I loved the first one so much (My Review) it made me nervous that this book would not live up to my hopes for it. But like I said above, I shouldn't have worried! It was really, really good! I absolutely loved it! It also makes me happy that I was finally able to finish a book, and the book I was able to finish was this one! If you haven't read this authors books yet, you totally should! They are so good! Overall, I definitely recommend this book! :)

The first female character that comes to mind for me is Cinder, because even after everything she goes through and how people treat her, she doesn't give up. Even if she isn't the strongest physically, I think mentally she is very strong in the book.

I get really frustrated when people judge me based on things like who my favorite singers/bands are, or how I dress, or how I'm a little shy when people first meet me. I've been guilty of jumping to conclusions about people because of things like that, and I really want to stop doing that in the new year.

Plot: I really enjoyed the plot! A teen cooking show was a neat idea for a book! It seemed like it took the mystery a little while to get started, but once it did, it was really hard to figure out who was the cause of it all! I managed to guess who did it, but not why. Towards the end when they revealed who was behind it all, I was very surprised to find out why they had done it. The plot was really enjoyable and made me want to keep reading it to find out what would happen!

Characters: I liked  the characters a lot! Nora was a good main character! Though, I will say that Christian was likable one minute, then the next minute he would say something that would make you want to slap him. But I actually did like him overall! Her friend from back home, Billy was interesting. I wish we could have seen a little more of him! There is a tiny, tiny love triangle between Billy, Christian, and Nora. What was nice about it though, is that I didn't really know which one she would end up with. Both were people I could picture her ending up with!

The cover: I like it! It's not my favorite cover ever, but I like the colors on it a lot! :)

Overall: This was very enjoyable book! The plot, characters, and ending were all great! If you're looking for a fun read this is a book that I definitely recommend you to read! :)

What's in the Snow? Scavenger Hunt

What's in the Snow? is a scavenger hunt hosted by Cal of Read Books and Live Green and Jessica of Reviews Abound! I'm excited to be hosting one of the stops for it! For my post I'm going to show you how to make a wreath for the holidays! The one I'm making below is one I created for Christmas, but you could easily change the colors of it for any holiday! :)

Things You'll Need:
Hot Glue Gun
Wreath
Wide Ribbon
Bells
Yarn (Not Pictured)

Ignore the dates at the bottom of the pictures, my camera wanted them there, apparently.

Begin wrapping your wreath with the ribbon, this is mine halfway through.

Here's how mine looked fully wrapped. After you finish wrapping it, take the hot glue gun and secure the ribbon to the back of the wreath.

Dab a little bit of hot glue onto the wreath, then place a bell onto it. Then continue to place them until you complete the circle around the wreath.

Take a little bit of yarn and using the hot glue gun, attach it to the back of the wreath. It will be easier to hang it up that way.

And there you go! You have made a wreath! Here's how mine looked hanging on the wall afterward! :)

I thought it would be fun to make a post about my favorite music, TV shows, and movies from the past year!

Favorite Album Released This Year?

This is not going to surprise any of you (at least I don't think it will) but my favorite album this year was Midnight Memories by One Direction! I LOVE it! I get that not everyone is a One Direction fan, but I think this album is really really good. And pretty different from their other albums. And another album I really loved this year was the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack! :)

Favorite Song Released This Year?

This is where the questions get harder for me! I have listened to a lot of amazing songs this year, but I think I'm going to say Roar by Katy Perry! I really love that song. And almost all of the songs on Midnight Memories! And everything Hunter Hayes has released this year! :)

Favorite Artist This Year?

Taylor Swift! My favorite singer ever! Hunter Hayes and One Direction are favorites too. :)

Favorite Pop Song/Artist?

Roar by Katy Perry, Pass Me Buy by R5, and Best Song Ever, Story of My Life, Stronger, Happily, and Little Black Dress by One Direction! One Direction and Katy Perry would be my favorite Pop artists! :) I feel like I'm forgetting one though.

Favorite Country Song/Artist?

Oooh, this is hard! Compass by Lady Antebellum was a favorite this year! And Done by The Band Perry! Oh, I'll go ahead and mention my favorite Hunter Hayes songs too! I Want Crazy, Everybodys Got Somebody But Me, Light Me Up, Better Than This, and Wanted. :) And just add all of Taylor Swifts songs on here too. Those are most of my favorite Country artists! :)

Favorite Christian Song/Artist?

Overcomer by Mandisa was a favorite this year! And A LOT of Tobymac songs too! Both are my favorite Christian artists! :)

Favorite TV Show Overall?

I just know you all are going to laugh at me for this, but TMNT was a favorite this year.  My favorite turtle is Donatello. Yes, I'm a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Laugh at me all you want.

Despicable Me 2 was hilarious! I love that one! And I enjoyed Monsters University too!

Favorite Movie Not Released This Year?

Brave! I don't know why I hadn't watched this movie before this year, but now that I have I LOVE it! I also really enjoyed Hotel Transylvania!

Favorite Character From a Movie This Year?

Merida from Brave. It was wonderful seeing a female main character who wasn't just the love interest. It was really about her and her mom and I love that. I would love to see that more often in movies. Another favorite character if they count as a single character, the minions from Despicable Me 2!

Favorite Made For TV Movie?

Teen Beach Movie! I love the music in it!

Most Anticipated Release for Next Year?
Probably How to Train Your Dragon 2! :)
