Blog Tour: Spotlight on Tigers Not Daughters

Hi, everyone! Today I'm pleased to participate in the blog tour for the paperback release of Tigers Not Daughters by Samantha Mabry!

Blog Tour: The Torres sisters dream of escape. Escape from their needy and despotic widowed father, and from their San Antonio neighborhood, full of old San Antonio families and all the traditions and expectations that go along with them. In the summer after her senior year of high school, Ana, the oldest sister, falls to her death from her bedroom window. A year later, her three younger sisters, Jessica, Iridian, and Rosa, are still consumed by grief and haunted by their sister’s memory. Their dream of leaving Southtown now seems out of reach. But then strange things start happening around the house: mysterious laughter, mysterious shadows, mysterious writing on the walls. The sisters begin to wonder if Ana really is haunting them, trying to send them a message—and what exactly she’s trying to say.

In a stunning follow-up to her National Book Award–longlisted novel All the Wind in the World, Samantha Mabry weaves an aching, magical novel that is one part family drama, one part ghost story, and one part love story.

Author Bio: samantha was born four days before the death of john lennon. she grew up in dallas, playing bass guitar along to vinyl records in her bedroom after school, writing fan letters to rock stars, doodling song lyrics into notebooks, and reading big, big books.

in college at southern methodist university, she majored in english literature, minored in spanish, and studied latin and classics. after that, she went on to receive a master’s degree in english from boston college.

these days, she teaches at a community college and spends as much time as possible in the west texas desert.

A FIERCE AND SUBTLE POISON (Algonquin Young Readers, spring 2016) was her first novel. ALL THE WIND IN THE WORLD, a Western, was published in the fall of 2017 and was nominated for the National Book Award for Young Peoples' Literature. TIGERS, NOT DAUGHTERS released in the spring of 2020 and received six starred trade reviews.

Tigers Not Daughters is out in paperback today! :)

Mini Review: Prom Theory

Review: Prom Theory by Ann LaBar

In this heartwarming and whip-smart YA spin on The Rosie Project, a teen girl is determined to prove that love, like all things, should be scientifically quantified…right?

Iris Oxtabee has managed to navigate the tricky world of unspoken social interactions by reading everything from neuroscience journals to Wikipedia articles. Science has helped her fit the puzzle pieces into an understandable whole, and she’s sure there’s nothing it can’t explain. Love, for example, is just chemistry.

Her best friend Seth, however, believes love is one of life’s beautiful and chaotic mysteries, without need for explanation. Iris isn’t one to back down from a challenge; she’s determined to prove love is really nothing more than hormones and external stimuli. After all, science has allowed humanity to understand more complex mysteries than that, and Iris excels at science.

The perfect way to test her theory? Get the popular and newly-single Theo Grant, who doesn’t even know Iris exists, to ask her to prom. With prom just two weeks away, Iris doesn’t have any time to waste, so she turns her keen empirical talents and laser-focus attention to testing her theory.

But will proving herself correct cause her friendship with Seth—and the tantalizing possibility for something more—to become the failed experiment?

Mini Review: This was a cute romance! Iris trying to prove her theory with her experiment was entertaining. I loved how her friends played a big role. Overall, I thought this was a good YA romance, and would definitely recommend trying it!

I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher.

Upcoming 2021 Cozy Mystery Series Beginnings!

Hi, everyone! Today I thought I would share some Cozy Mystery series beginnings that are releasing this year. I'm looking forward to reading all of these books, I think they sound so good!

Listed in order of authors last name.

Much ADO about Nauticaling (Whit and Whiskers Mystery #1) by Gabby Allan (Releases July 27th!)

This is the one book on the list I've already read! My review will go up in July, but let me just say that I really enjoyed reading it, and would definitely suggest you add it to your TBR list!

The Rocky Road to Ruin (Ice Cream Shop Mysteries #1) by Meri Allen (Releases July 27th!)

All you have to say is ice cream, and a book will go on my list. (Ice cream is the best dessert, you can't prove me wrong about that!)

Death in Castle Dark by Veronica Bond (Releases August 3rd!)

I've always thought mystery dinners were so neat (I've never been to one, but I hope to eventually!), but a whole weekend? I obviously have to read!

Deadly Summer Nights (A Catskill Summer Resort Mystery #1) by Vicki Delany (Releases September 7th!)

A cozy series set in the 1950s? I have to add it to my TBR!

It Takes Two to Mango (Trouble in Paradise! #1) by Carrie Doyle  (Release June 29th!)

A tropical mystery?! Has to be added to my TBR. (And isn't this cover so fun?!)

Death in Bloom: A Flower House Mystery by Jess Dylan (Releases May 25th!)

The summary for this one sounds really interesting, and a flower shop has great potential for mysteries!

Ruby Red Herring (An Avery Ayers Antique Mystery #1) by Tracy Gardner (Releases June 8th!)

This sounds really unique, and I love that a museum is involved!

Death of a Red-Hot Rancher by Mimi Granger (Releases September 7th!)

A romance bookstore? That's all I needed to know to add this cozy to my TBR list!

Arsenic and Adobo (Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery #1) by Mia P. Manansala  (Releases May 4th!)

This sounds like it will be a really fun mystery! And I love food based books!

Murder by Page One (Peach Coast Mystery #1) by Olivia Matthews (Releases March 23rd!)

This sounds like it will be a really good beginning to a new cozy series about a librarian!
