Hi, everyone! Today I'm happy to present an interview with Priyanka Taslim, author of The Love Match, which releases in December!
Would you please describe your book, The Love Match, in seven words?
A Bangladeshi girl's meddling mom plays matchmaker.
Did you always want to be a writer?
I did! I was always a voracious reader and would spend as much time as I could in the library. I used to daydream about seeing my books there one day. I would write fanfics and other stories for fun, never quite imagining I would ever get to publish books starring characters who looked like me. It's still hard to believe that dream is coming true.
Random Question! What’s your favorite color?
Blue!
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Don't give up! Along the way, you may end up having to trunk books you've worked on because their querying or publication journeys don't work out. Giving up on a project and fielding constant rejection can be dejecting and may make you want to quit. However, you learn something and evolve as a writer thanks to every story you write, even incomplete stories. If you love to write and dream of sharing your books with the world, keep going. There are many different paths, with their own challenges and joys, waiting out there for you.
What are some books you’re looking forward to reading in 2022? And if you’ve already read some ‘22 books, would you like to mention them?
Some books I've already had a chance to read and have enjoyed are THE IVORY KEY by Akshaya Raman, THE BONE SPINDLE by Leslie Vedder, and ONLY A MONSTER by Vanessa Len. These are all incredible fantasies,
In addition, I'm looking forward to BOYS I KNOW by Anna Gracia, THE LOOPHOLE by Naz Kutub, YOU TRULY ASSUME by Laila Sabreen, A MILLION TO ONE by Adiba Jaigirdar, A CRUEL AND FATED LIGHT by Ashley Shuttleworth, SEOULMATES by Susan Lee, BAD AT LOVE by Gabriela Martins, FALL WINTER SPRING SUMMER by Maya Prasad, THIS IS WHY THEY HATE US by Aaron Aceves, LOVE TIMES INFINITY by Lane Clarke, TJ POWAR HAS SOMETHING TO PROVE by Jesmeen Kaur Deo, BEAUTY AND THE BESHARAM by Lillie Vale, JASMINE ZUMIDEH NEEDS A WIN, and MORE. There are so many incredible books I can't wait to read! 2022 will be a great year for books!
Author Bio: Priyanka Taslim is a writer, teacher, and lifelong New Jersey resident.
Having grown up in a bustling Bangladeshi diaspora community, surrounded by her mother’s entire clan and many aunties of no relation, her writing often features families, communities, and all the drama therein.
Currently, Priyanka teaches 9th grade English by day and tells all kinds of stories about Bangladeshi characters by night. Her writing usually stars spunky Bangladeshi heroines finding their place in the world…and a little swoony romance, too.
Her debut young adult novel, THE LOVE MATCH, is releasing from Salaam Reads, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, on December 6, 2022. You can ADD IT to Goodreads now.
